Lake Bda Maka Ska is the biggest lake in Minneapolis and is part of the Chain of Lakes in the city. The lake is encased by trails that are prefect for cycling and hiking with great views across the lake itself. It is a popular spot for many outdoor pursuits and water sports are also possible with a “beach” where you can hire kayaks, canoes or paddle boats. If you get hungry there is a decent snack bar and also picnic areas. It is in the trendy Uptown Neighborhood where you can go get a meal or ice cream.

Located just a short distance to the East of the mall is Fort Snelling; the oldest structure in the whole of Minnesota. The building was constructed in 1820 with the sole purpose of being a frontier outpost in what was a very remote area at the time. A trip to Fort Snelling today involves actors/tour guides in period costume telling you about the history of the museum as well as re-enacting what life was like for the pioneers all that time ago.

Minnesota History Museum

The Minnesota History Center is a museum and library that serves as the headquarters of the Minnesota Historical Society. Walk through a re-created home from St. Paul and explore the lives of the German, Italian, African and Hmong Families that lived there. Board a C-47 to join the fight on D-day, sit at a soda fountain from the 1930s and climb through a model grain elevator. It is near downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota, and is considered one of Minnesota's finest public buildings.

The Science Museum of Minnesota is one of the state’s most popular museums, with a reach that extends well beyond its riverfront location in downtown Saint Paul.
